Description of the method:
The fuel sample is cooled and sucked through the filter into the pipette under standardized conditions every 1°C. Paraffin crystals released from the fuel reduce the fuel flow rate. When the pipette filling time exceeds 60 s, or the pipette emptying time is longer than the temperature drop time by 1°C, the temperature reading is considered to be the result of determining the Cold Filter Plugging Point.
The turbidity point is determined while the sample is cooling. The highest temperature is determined at which the transparent fuel sample becomes cloudy due to the release of paraffin crystals.
Interpretation of the results:
Turbidity point is the temperature at which the crystallization process of paraffins contained in the fuel begins, which is manifested by characteristic turbidity.
The cold filter plugging point (CFPP) defines the limiting temperature of fuel use, at which both the amount of crystallized paraffins, prevents the flow of diesel fuel through the fuel filter and causes it to block. In real conditions, such a situation results in the immobilization of the unit and the need to take service actions.
The required CFPP value for standard diesel fuel (summer, transitional and winter) is specified in the regulation of the Minister of Economy on quality requirements for liquid fuels.
